Where have all the Cinema's Gone?

When Halifax's three-screen cinema was converted into yet another nightclub, Calderdale was sadly left with just two.

In today's day and age, when there is an emphasis on entertainment and television, it is hard to understand why. Maybe its because the people of Calderdale thrive on live performances such as the theatre or maybe people prefer to travel to the nearest multiplexes in Bradford and Leeds to get a glimpse of their favourite actor or actress and for the variety of films being offered.

However, as the nearest multiplexes are all located outside of Calderdale it can be very costly for families on a budget to go and see the latest releases.

The two cinema's that are left flying the flag for the big/small screen in Calderdale are Elland's Rex Cinema and Hebden Bridge's Picture House. Both cinemas are small, with just one screen, but have a lot of character. If you want to go and watch a movie, both cinemas are well worth a visit.
